Review: Tokami - Invasion of The Darkness

Invasion of the Darkness is the first release by Tokami featuring their new vocalist, Agato, and it doesn't disappoint. Now more of an explanation is needed here as I'm sure the majority of people weren't overly fond of it, but there are a select few who will have enjoyed this mini album alot. In my opnion, it wasnt as good as i hoped, but the most important thing to mention is the flaws.

When i heard a preview for "Nibuiro no Ame, Sashidesareta Hidarite" from this cd, i really enjoyed it, which led to me being very excited about this release. Moments after i heard it i searched for and downloaded the entire discoraphy of Tokami, and alot of it was fairly dissapointing.

Im not at all trying to say that the old Tokami was bad, more that they hadnt exaclty found what they were best at. Listening to their songs there were many moments for vocals and the instruments that were pure genious, but the unfortunate thing is that they didnt ever seem to go together too well.

When i discovered they had a new vocalist, i was excited that this may lead to them finally being able to realise what they do best and how to do it, but that wasnt the case. Although there were many moments of how they should sound, those moments were divided by the confused. Never the less, i am fond of this release, and because of it i am even more excited for whatever they release next as it looks like theyre finally releasing what theyre good at, and when theyre fully able to use that, i have no doubt that this band will be one of the very best.

They use alot of unsusual techniques, which will put off some, but give them time to refine these techniques and they'll "wow" you soon enough.
