Chemical Pictures: Praparat Review

1. Reincarnation

The track starts off with some brilliantly distorted guitars, followed by an equally distorted scream, which made me quite hopefully for the song. The distorted guitars and heavy drums are dropped for a much calmer verse, although you can still hear the stretched chords of the guitars in the background, before it builds up to a bridge in which I'm certain there's a small bit of English. The next verse is much heavier than the first with the guitars and drums much more prominent in it, again ending in the bridge building to the chorus.

Oh wait. I think that bridge WAS the chorus.

So in short, i was disappointed with the chorus in this song. It felt unemotional and lacked passion, or more than that it was too short. I think. I'm still not sure whats what in this song. Its not by any means a bad song, i did enjoy it, but even when screaming towards the end it just seemed to lack a BOOM that signifies a good rock song, but it is only the first track so i suppose its okay.

Mark: 5.5/10

2. Praparat

The song starts with a pleasantly solitary guitar riff, which is soon then accompanied by vocalist Tenten, beautifully pulling the listener deep into the song. As they both quiet, you build a rough idea of whats coming in your head for this song. I can assure you that rough idea will be replaced with WTF.

Okay so now I've realised this is actually a very very jazzy song and whilst not being what i expected is very very enjoyable. Up until the chorus anyway, which is far to slow and popish for my liking, luckily there's then a much faster section following. the song constantly goes from jazzish & fast tempo'd rock to being a slow a beautiful piece of music, and then even goes for straight out normal rock at points. Oh and not forgetting the very popish parts of the chorus.

Mark: 7/10

3. Schwarzwald (isn't the guitarist called Schwarz?)

The final track, Shwarzwald is a beautiful instrumental piece, it somehow keeps a slow melancholic tempo whilst being fast and dramatic. I don't know what song or what movie but it certainly does feel like a a familiar song to me, and reminds me of a few epic movies, which may explain the dramatic feel i get from it which others may not. My only quarrel with this song is that its too short.

Mark: 7.5/10

Overall a very good release for such a young band, i look forward to what they have in stall for us in the future.
