Review: LM.C - Punky ❤ Heart

LM.C seem to be one of the few rare bands that can keep on making amazing music, whilst not changing how they do it. So many bands impress then disappoint with their releases but for me LM.C are consistently brilliant.

The title song, Punky ❤ Heart, is vibrant, catchy, beautiful, and all the while simple. If i were to describe the song to you it wouldn't seem like anything special at all, no unusual instruments, no unusual use of instruments, just a simple J-rock song. But for some reason its incredibly catchy, id say its probably down to a mixture between the heartful yet energetic chorus, and of course Maya's incredible vocals.

The second song, DAYS, won me over instantly. it begins with a strange electronic noise, then gong into a more expected rock beat for LM.C. The bridge is ingeniously arranged with backing vocals, which add to the drama of the song. Other than the again brilliant chorus, one of the things that wins me over for this song is the use of a violin after the chorus, its only very short, but more than enough, being that I'm hearing a beautiful violin piece in the same song as Maya's vocals. Now if we can just get the GazettE using a violin.

The third song on the limited edition, Ningyo no Namida, is very different from the norm. Such an unusual choice of instruments, listening to it instantly puts me in a tropical jungle. Its got the upbeat tune as do all LM.C songs, at the same time as being so fresh for the band. The chorus, whilst being energetic, isn't quit as energetic as the previous songs. But that is by no means a bad thing, its a good song for listening to if your not in an overly energetic mood. It does well to show the band definitely aren't one trick ponies, you'll know that for sure after the chorus, when the steel drum briefly joins the ensemble.

Overall this release is not really a step forward for LM.C, but as the saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". In my opinion LM.C are perfect where they are and for now don't need to take any steps forward.
